What if I'm not sure that I'm attending UW-Madison?

What if I have a preferred roommate?

See Roommate Requests (for new students)

Why am I required to rank order all the residence hall choices?

  • We want to make sure you receive the most preferred option of the hall neighborhoods available at the time your room assignment is made.
  • Lakeshore or Southeast designation appears next to each of the halls to assist you in grouping your choices by neighborhood. See the map for further assistance.
  • Use our University Residence Halls Viewbook and residence hall Web sites to help you determine your residence hall choices.
  • We do not guarantee placement into any specific hall.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Certain halls have different room types and pricing (Adams - including the International Learning Community, Barnard, Friedrick, Merit, Smith, or Ogg). You can expect to pay a higher room rate if you are assigned to one of these halls.
  • Learning Communites have an extra fee.
  • We do not collect requests for a specific room type. You may be assigned to any of the room types we offer, although most new students will be assigned to double rooms.
  • Some room types have a higher rate than double rooms; be sure to review the rate information.

Why can't I request a single room?

  • We do not collect requests for a specific room type.
  • You may be assigned to any of the room types we offer, although most new students will be assigned to double rooms.

Are you interested in a learning community?

We invite you to explore the exciting opportunities available in these programs:

Students who list one of these choices "1" will be assigned there before students who list these choices 2,3,4, etc.

An additional program fee may apply. See rate information.
